Dear Supporters,

As our petition for accountability at Roseland Community Hospital gains momentum, we feel it is our responsibility to keep the community informed about the individuals who remain in positions of power and direct patient care at Roseland Community Hospital despite documented misconduct, federal legal scrutiny, and serious safety concerns.

Under CEO Tim Egan, has not removed and in some cases appears to protect staff who pose a risk to public health and the hospital’s integrity.

🔹 Dr. Thomas Singel II – Emergency Department Physician
Dr. Singel was:

• Previously named in a federal discrimination lawsuit (Bommiasamy v. Galesburg Hospital), where he was accused of contributing to a hostile work environment involving age and national origin discrimination against another physician.
• More critically, at Roseland, he has been identified as the provider responsible for multiple EMTALA violations involving discriminatory denial of emergency care. This includes instances where Black patients were refused service based on prejudicial assumptions (e.g., labeling victims of abuse or patients with chronic conditions as “drug-seeking” or “noncompliant”) and were subsequently discharged or removed without evaluation or stabilization. These cases are not isolated and include at least one known patient death.

🔹 Dr. Vittorio Guerriero, MD – General Surgeon
Dr. Guerriero was named in a legal complaint by an insurance company for allegedly misrepresenting information in order to obtain malpractice insurance coverage.

🔹 Robert Vais – Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Mr. Vais was convicted in a fatal DUI crash that took the life of a cyclist in 2013. He now holds one of the hospital’s top financial positions.

These appointments raise grave concerns about public safety, discrimination, leadership ethics, and misuse of public funds.
