I want to say this honestly, because keeping it inside hasn’t helped anyone.

I’ve watched LGBTQ athletes get pushed out of sports, and I’ve felt that same quiet ache in my own life. Some of us practice until our bodies are tired, until the field is empty, until we’ve given everything we have — and still, when we try to step onto the field, we’re told we don’t belong. Not because we aren’t good enough. But because of who we are. 

There’s a kind of heartbreak in that that doesn’t make noise. It settles deep. It stays with you, it never leaves.

To show up as the person you know you are, and see people look at you
like you’re breaking a rule you never agreed to — it changes something
inside you. It makes you wonder if there will ever be a place where you
don’t have to defend your own existence just to play the sport you love.

Sports were supposed to be that place. The one space where we could
breathe. Where we didn’t have to pretend. Where we finally felt like
ourselves. For some of us, our team became another family — the people
we trusted when the rest of life felt too heavy. And for many, the sport
itself was an escape from everything else: a few hours where the world’s
expectations fell away and we could be unburdened, even just for a
moment.

Losing that doesn’t feel like losing a game. It feels like losing a
piece of yourself you were finally starting to trust.

This isn’t fairness. It isn’t protection. It’s harm that hides in plain
sight — the kind people don’t notice unless they’ve lived it.

So I’m asking — quietly, but clearly — for this to stop.

Please stop taking away the places where we feel safe. Please stop
telling us that who we are makes us unworthy of the sport we love.
Please stop pushing out athletes who have already fought so hard just to
belong.

No one should lose their team, their joy, their second family, their
escape, or their safe haven because of the sex they were assigned at
birth. No one should be turned away after working so hard to be part of
something that was supposed to welcome them.
