Protect Lake Creek Wetlands and Preserve Community Aesthetics Petition

Protect Lake Creek Wetlands and Preserve Community Aesthetics Petition
The Issue
Living on the wetlands at Brett Ranch has offered me the unique opportunity to experience the serene beauty of nature right in my backyard. Each morning, I watch wildlife peacefully bed down on our lawn, unbothered by the bustle of everyday life. These wetlands serve as a haven for the animals, providing a vital habitat for their play and mating rituals, which are crucial for the health of the herds and the birds.
However, the recent decision by the Eagle County Commissioners to allow a recreational path adjacent to the new Edwards River Park Development threatens this delicate ecosystem. A walking path is likely to invite unlicensed fishermen, graffiti taggers, and litterers, leading to the erosion of the precious soil that protects the banks of Lake Creek. These paths could become makeshift makeout spots and bring strangers uncomfortably close to our homes, decreasing property values and disrupting the quiet enjoyment of our properties.
Moreover, such development invites unregulated activities, and dogs marking along the trails could deter the natural behaviors of wildlife, further threatening the delicate ecological balance.
Beyond the ecological impacts, there is a pressing concern about the aesthetic integrity of our community. The area's charm lies in its dark, earth-tone colored homes that blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings. The proposal to erect high-contrast, white metal buildings reaching a hundred feet high is an affront to the visual and cultural fabric of Edwards, CO. We have examples nearby, by Miller Ranch and west of the mobile homes, of how jarring these structures can be, clashing with the community's preferred aesthetic.
The community of Edwards, CO depends on these wetlands and its cohesive aesthetic. It is critical to take action now to protect this oasis. Tell the Eagle County Commissioners to halt these proposed developments and preserve the natural and cultural integrity of our cherished environment. Thank you, from the animals, I am the messenger.
Sign this petition and stand with us to stop this from happening before they irrevocably change our community.
