Kitt Green, a cherished part of Wigan, is under threat. The green belt land that surrounds our community, providing a sanctuary for wildlife, a resource for recreation, and a vital lung for the local environment, is facing the risk of irreversible damage. Urban development pressures have been mounting, and developers are eyeing this green space, potentially leading to the loss of our valuable natural heritage.

Green belt land serves as a critical buffer that prevents urban sprawl, maintaining the unique character of our village and ensuring that future generations can enjoy the beauty and tranquility that make Kitt Green / Orrell special. This land is not only crucial for biodiversity—serving as a habitat for numerous plant and animal species—but it also plays a significant role in combatting climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide.

Moreover, the green belt offers our community much-needed space for outdoor activities, promoting physical health and well-being. It is a place for residents to unwind, connect with nature, and escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. The loss of this green space would mean a significant reduction in quality of life for the inhabitants of Kitt Green and the surrounding areas.

We believe that sustainable development is possible without sacrificing our green belt. Solutions such as utilizing already developed brownfield sites, increasing housing density in a manner sympathetic to the environment, and investing in public transport links should be prioritized to meet development needs responsibly.
