Stop Abuse Campaign
Jan 23, 2017
State Senator Brad Hoylman (D, WF-Manhattan), prime sponsor of the Child Victims Act, recently released the statement below. “I’m heartened at the news that Governor Cuomo plans to introduce a version of the legislation I carry in the State Senate to finally give the survivors of child sexual abuse their day in court. For too long, New York’s statutes of limitations for crimes of child sexual abuse have been the most restrictive in the entire nation. New York now promises to take a monumental step forward by permitting survivors more time to file cases beyond the age of 23, giving current survivors a one-year period to revive civil claims, and treating private and public institutions equally. “This will be a vote of conscience. It’s imperative that Senate Republicans bring this legislation to the floor and once and for all provide justice for the survivors of child sexual abuse. There's nothing more important than seeing justice done, especially for our kids.“ Help us get the bill to the floor. Almost 68,000 of us have signed the petition. The comments section is full of stories. We all know New York's children deserve better. Let's make sure that the Senate Republicans do too. They get an email every time somebody signs. Please share the petition on your social media and join in one big drive towards our target of 75,000 signatures. We've come so far. Thank you.
