Thank you for standing with us to protect Kensal Green Cemetery and our wider community. We need to be clear about how things stand right now — and there’s no way to sugar it. A legal challenge seems unavoidable. We need £20,000 to mount imminent court action.

Here’s why:

A difficult reality

Across England, unsustainable and unsafe major developments are being approved under increasing pressure to meet housing targets — even where there are profound concerns about affordability, safety, infrastructure, and environmental impact.

We continue to hope that the Mayor of London will recognise the scale of harm the Kensal Canalside proposal will cause to West London. But we must also be realistic:

If this scheme is approved, we need to be ready immediately to challenge it in court.

Strong grounds — but one clear focus

This proposal raises multiple serious issues, all of which give strong grounds for legal challenge:

  • harm to a Grade I listed Kensal Green Cemetery
  • constrained access and emergency safety risks
  • lack of genuinely affordable housing
  • pressure on transport and local infrastructure

However, leading solicitors Bindmans and eminent barrister David Wolfe KC have advised that our strongest legal case is clear:

The risk to public health and the environment from toxic contamination on this former gasworks site.

This is where we have the best chance of success — and where we must focus.

We're already moving — but there's still a way to go

Thanks to your support, we have already raised over £6,500. That is an extraordinary start. But legal action is complex — and expensive.

We need £20,000.
And we need to be ready now.

This is not just a local issue

If a scheme with such serious and unresolved risks is allowed to proceed, it sets a dangerous precedent for communities across London and England: That developments can be waved through despite clear conflicts with planning policy, public health concerns, lack of infrastructure and affordable housing, and basic questions of safety.

What you can do right now

Please give what you can today.
