Protect Kaiser Permanente Security Personnel and Preserve Hospital Safety
Protect Kaiser Permanente Security Personnel and Preserve Hospital Safety
The Issue
Kaiser Permanente hospitals rely on security personnel every day to help maintain a safe environment for patients, nurses, physicians, staff, visitors, and our communities.
For years, security personnel have worked alongside Kaiser staff in some of the most difficult and unpredictable situations that occur in a hospital. We respond when employees need assistance, help de-escalate dangerous situations, support workplace violence prevention efforts, protect patients and staff, and work every day to uphold the safety and security standards expected in a healthcare environment.
Now, security personnel are facing changes that could significantly affect our positions and compensation. For many of us, this isn’t simply a change on a piece of paper. These are our livelihoods. We are parents, spouses, homeowners, renters, and caregivers. Our families depend on the income we earn doing this work.
We believe reducing compensation or eliminating existing positions while continuing to expect employees to perform substantially similar security responsibilities undervalues the experience, training, responsibility, and risk that come with this work.
Kaiser Has the Resources to Do Better
Kaiser Permanente and Risant Health reported $9.3 billion in net income in 2025. In the second quarter of 2026 alone, they reported another $5.28 billion in net income.
We understand that operating a healthcare system of this size involves enormous expenses and that not all net income comes directly from hospital operations. But these numbers raise an important question:
Why should frontline workers and their families be asked to absorb significant reductions in compensation while the organization remains financially strong?
We believe an organization with these resources can pursue efficiency without doing so at the expense of the livelihoods of the people who help keep its hospitals safe.
This issue also extends beyond our paychecks.
Hospital security directly affects the working environment of everyone inside the hospital. Healthcare workers already face workplace violence, threats, behavioral emergencies, and unpredictable situations. Security personnel are often standing beside hospital staff when those situations occur.
Decisions affecting the people responsible for providing that support deserve careful consideration and input from the employees and healthcare professionals who experience these situations firsthand.
We are asking Kaiser Permanente and the companies responsible for providing its security services to pause these proposed changes, meet meaningfully with affected employees and their representatives, and find a solution that protects both experienced security personnel and the safety of the hospitals we serve.
We are not asking for special treatment.
We are asking that our work, experience, responsibilities, and livelihoods be treated with the value they deserve.
If you are a Kaiser employee, healthcare worker, patient, family member, community member, or simply believe workers deserve a voice when decisions directly affect their livelihoods, please stand with us by signing and sharing this petition.
Our work has value. Our families matter. Hospital safety matters.
Stand with Kaiser security personnel.
