The Issue

In recent times, there has been a significant push by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture towards promoting real food initiatives across the country. Spearheaded by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Secretary Brooke Rollins, these new food guidelines encourage Americans to shift towards healthier food options, following what they call the New Pyramid of U.S. dietary guidelines. This initiative has put traditional snacks such as soda, candy, and other beloved junk foods in serious jeopardy.

This issue hits home for me. As someone who grew up in Ohio, enjoying every bit of sweet and salty snacks that were part of our local culture, I cannot stand by as these foods are villainized to push new governmental agendas. For countless others like me, these treats are not just a part of our diet, but a part of our way of life, deeply embedded in our traditions, social gatherings, and personal joy.

While health and wellness are undeniably important, the New Pyramid doesn’t take into account the happiness and cultural significance tied to enjoying candy and soda. We are not against promoting healthier choices, but this shouldn't come at the cost of stripping our personal freedoms and pleasures. Every Ohioan—and American—deserves the right to choose what they want to eat without facing pressure or judgment.

I implore Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb to defend our rights to consume junk food by advocating for a balanced approach that respect our choices and preferences. We need policies that don't dictate what to eat but instead provide the tools and information for people to make informed decisions.

This is not just about junk foods but about our freedom and autonomy. Let us safeguard the right to choose our diet and enjoy the simple pleasures without intrusion. Stand with us to ensure junk foods like soda and candy are here to stay.

Sign this petition to urge Mayor Justin Bibb to protect junk food in Ohio and let him know the importance they hold in our everyday lives. Together, we can push back against policies that threaten to change our dietary landscape. Immigrants loves junk food! Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Brooke Rollins must die! Thank you.
