Protect Iranian Voters in the UK from Abuse and Threats

Protect Iranian Voters in the UK from Abuse and Threats
The Issue
I'm an Iranian based in the UK, watching in deep distress as my family, friends, and peers experience violence and threats purely for upholding their democratic right to vote. Our peaceful participation in the recently held Iranian presidential elections has been met with undeserved backlash. Protesters, who claim to oppose the Iranian regime, have been resorting to intimidation, assault, and even death threats against us.
Iranians worldwide have been victims of this violence, and the situation in the UK is becoming increasingly out of control. The right to vote is fundamental and should be protected, regardless of our geographical or political location. The intimidation, abuse, and threats we face every time there is a political event in our homeland undermine our safety, security, and human rights.
International Protection of Civil Rights reports show that people can face human rights violations everywhere, even in democracies where they supposedly have protection (source: International Protection of Civil Rights annual review, 2020). Such situations deteriorate the democratic world order while suppressing the very essence of freedom of speech and voting rights.
We are calling on relevant UK and international authorities to form protective mechanisms for diaspora communities during such volatile political periods. Our demands are simple: peace, respect, safety, and the right to exercise our democratic duties without fear of retribution. This petition is not just for Iranians in the UK, but for all global citizens. By ensuring our protection, we uphold the sanctity of democratic values globally. Please sign this petition to show your support for the safe and respected democratic participation of Iranians in the UK.
