This aggressive and implicit bias in the criminal justice system has led to wrongful incarcerations, unrealistic sentences, and unjust executions. Additionally, it seems self-defense, a fundamental human instinct as old as mankind itself, is criminalized instead of being seen distinctly for what it really is - an act of self-preservation.
