I am a resident of Arkansas, currently dealing with a heart-wrenching situation where over 100 horses have died in the last three years, all under the care of one individual. This is not just an isolated incident but a reflection of the inadequate state laws that fail to protect horses. 

In our state, horses are considered livestock and thus do not receive the same protections as pets under animal cruelty laws. This classification allows for neglect and abuse to go unpunished, leading to tragic situations like the one I am witnessing. According to The Humane Society of United States (HSUS), each year thousands of horses across America suffer from neglect or abuse.

We need our lawmakers in Arkansas to recognize this issue and take immediate action by improving state law on horse welfare. Our goal is not only to prevent such tragedies from happening again but also ensure that those responsible for such acts face appropriate legal consequences.  Be a voice for horses here as we take awareness of inadequate laws nationally.
