Protect Grizzly Bears: Strengthen Endangered Species Protections

Protect Grizzly Bears: Strengthen Endangered Species Protections

The Issue

After decades of government-sponsored eradication efforts, grizzly bears were pushed to the brink of extinction in the contiguous United States. While their population has shown remarkable resilience—nearly tripling since being protected under the Endangered Species Act in 1975—scientists agree that the recovery is far from complete.

The threat of climate change makes their future even more uncertain. Rising temperatures are disrupting key food sources, making it vital that isolated grizzly populations have the space and freedom to move, connect, and maintain genetic diversity.

We support strong endangered species protections for grizzly bears across the entire contiguous U.S. We also celebrate the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) proposed rule to maintain protections for grizzlies in the Northern Rockies and into Washington.

However, continued pressure is needed to ensure these protections are upheld and expanded.

Sign this petition to demand that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service fully protect grizzly bears across their entire range and prioritize habitat connectivity to secure their future.

Once we gather enough signatures, we will:

Submit this petition directly to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) during the public comment period to show widespread public support.
Send it to state wildlife agencies in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Washington to urge state-level action supporting habitat connectivity and grizzly recovery.
Together, we can safeguard grizzly bears for future generations and protect one of our nation’s most iconic species.
