The Issue

Attention public television and radio stations, democratic representatives and senators, immigrant avocates, and community members, I'm writing this with a heavy heart, filled with concern, shock, anger, and disapointing at the White House and the Trump administration‘s proposal to claw back $1.1 billion funding for our vital public broadcasters, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR). These organizations do not just broadcast shows; they are pillars of unbiased journalism, educational content, and cultural programming that benefits millions of Americans every day.

PBS and NPR have been with us for decades, delivering high-quality, in-depth reporting and programming that simply can't be found elsewhere. From children's educational programs like “Wild Kratts”, “Curious George”, “Clifford the Big Red Dog”, “Arthur”, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood”, "Sesame Street”, “Donkey Hodie”, and “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” that have touched the lives of countless families, to NPR's "All Things Considered" which brings insightful news stories from around the globe, their contributions to society are substantial and irreplaceable.

Yet, President Donald J. Trump and certain Republican lawmakers are threatening to cut their funding, putting these beloved institutions at risk. It's hard to imagine a world without “Great Performances”, “Masterpiece”, “Antiques Roadshow", “Nova”, "PBS News Hour", “Washington Week”, or "Morning Edition", but this could become a reality without your immediate support.

Defunding PBS and NPR would have devastating impacts not just on their operations, but on the communities they passionately serve, including countless rural areas where public broadcasting is a primary source of news and information.

This is not just a political issue, but a cultural one. We are asking democratic representatives and senators to stand up, to emphatically say no to these threats, and to preserve the rich tapestry of American broadcasting.

And let it be clear! It’s time to fight back! Join me in raising your voice. We’re going to contact your local democratic representatives and senators to restore Public Media funding, share this petition, and urge them to protect the future of federal funding for PBS and NPR. Please sign now to make a difference before it’s too late. Thank you.
