On 24 July 2025, we formally wrote to the Minister for Corrections, the Department of Corrections, the Ombudsman, and the Office of the Inspectorate outlining serious systemic concerns in New Zealand prisons.

These concerns included:

The use of PERU, PERD and TNOC regimes and other forms of prolonged isolation without oversight
Inconsistent property rules that unfairly restrict access to belongings
Failures in the prisoner complaint process, where grievances are ignored or delayed
Ongoing issues with access to healthcare, education, and family contact

By 29 July 2025, we received acknowledgments from all four bodies:

The Minister’s office confirmed the complaint had been referred to Corrections
Corrections advised they would provide a direct response
Both the Ombudsman and the Inspectorate acknowledged receipt

👉 Yet, as of 17 August 2025, not one of these agencies has provided a substantive response.

This silence is unacceptable. These are not isolated issues — they are systemic problems affecting all inmates across New Zealand’s prisons. We have now sent a formal follow-up demanding answers within 14 days.

Your continued support is crucial. Every signature and share increases the pressure for accountability, transparency, and dignity in our prison system.

Please keep signing and sharing — together, we are making sure these concerns cannot be ignored.
