Less Than 24 Hours In — and the Momentum Is Real
In under 24 hours, this petition has already gained 153 supporters, more than 1,000 views, and been shared 226 times. That’s an incredible response — and it shows that people care deeply about what’s happening inside our prisons.
We’re now just 47 signatures away from our next goal. If you haven’t already, please share the petition and ask others to stand with us. Every voice counts.
What’s This Really About?
This petition demands an end to the secretive and damaging PERD and TNOC regimes being used in New Zealand prisons. These regimes subject people to prolonged isolation, often without clear justification, access to rehabilitation, or any independent oversight.
And we’re not alone in sounding the alarm:
📰 Stuff NZ shared the words of a man in solitary confinement: “Mum, I’m starting to talk to myself.”
🧠 The Conversation highlights how New Zealand’s Inspectorate warned that segregation is overused and lacks procedural safeguards.
📄 Even Corrections NZ acknowledged in a formal report that health-related segregation may breach prisoner rights due to poor oversight and inadequate safeguards.

Human Rights Reports Confirm It
The Human Rights Commission reported excessive use of segregation and restraints, especially on vulnerable women.
The Office of the Inspectorate found PERD operates as a hidden punishment regime — with no clear review process.
The Chief Ombudsman warned PERU conditions could amount to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.
This is About Justice.
Our petition is calling for oversight, accountability, and dignity. The evidence is overwhelming — it’s time to end these silent regimes. Keep sharing. Keep speaking out.
Thank you for standing up for human rights.
