We are continuing to engage constructively with councillors from across all parties ahead of the crucial Cork City Council vote on July 13th.
Three of our six local South-East ward councillors — Des Cahill, Honore Kamegni and Kieran McCarthy — have confirmed that they will vote against the rezoning proposal.
As the proposal requires a majority vote to pass, every Cork City councillor's vote matters.
This Wednesday, we will meet with three Fianna Fáil councillors at the site, including our two local ward councillors, Mary Rose Desmond and Terry Shannon. As the largest party on Cork City Council, with nine councillors, Fianna Fáil's position will play a significant role in the final outcome.
Unfortunately Labour Councillor Peter Horgan has confirmed that he intends to support the rezoning proposal. Labour has three councillors on Cork City Council and their position to support the rezoning will prove important in the final vote.
Our message remains clear: Cork needs housing, but it should be delivered on existing zoned and brownfield lands within the city boundary first.
The councillors we have met to date have all acknowledged that sufficient amounts of land remain available for housing development within the city boundary. Douglas and Rochestown deserve sustainable planning, not piecemeal, developer-led expansion into our Greenbelt lands. If we lose this Greenbelt land it is gone forever.
Community Walk – Saturday 4 July at 12 noon
As the vote approaches on 13 July, we are inviting everyone to join our Community Walk alongside the site on Saturday 4 July at 12 noon.
It should take no more than 30 minutes — unless we get chatting!

We would love to see you there to help send the message to Cork City Council that our community deserves infrastructure-led, sustainable planning and a sustainable Master Plan for Douglas and Rochestown before our Greenbelt lands are considered for rezoning.
