Protect Dogs from Heat Harm – Enforce Fines for Unsafe Dog Walking in Norfolk & Suffolk

Protect Dogs from Heat Harm – Enforce Fines for Unsafe Dog Walking in Norfolk & Suffolk
The Issue
Every summer, dogs in Norfolk and Suffolk are walked during dangerously hot conditions, putting their lives at risk. Vets agree: when the temperature hits 23°C or higher, dogs are at serious risk of heatstroke, paw burns, and even death.
Despite public warnings, some individuals continue to walk dogs in unsafe heat. I believe it’s time for local councils to step in.
We, the undersigned, call on Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils to:
Introduce enforceable fines for individuals who walk dogs in temperatures exceeding 23°C
Launch a public awareness campaign to educate owners about safe dog-walking temperature. Here’s hoping to start small and enforce UK wide.
This isn’t about punishment—it’s about prevention.
If you can’t hold your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for paws.
Let’s take a simple step to protect our four-legged companions. Sign now and share.
