Protect Devoted Educator from targeted harassment, intimidation & cultural bias!
The Issue
Ms. Ibi came into my life when my son and I were going through a very dark time. Under her guidance, my son stopped eloping and improved his reading, writing, and math skills. Her dedication and passion for teaching made a profound difference in his life, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
Ms. Ibi has made it her personal mission to serve black and brown special education students in Seattle, Washington, and she has done so impeccably. Her position is now under threat by a self-serving family with ill intentions, which is a devastating blow not only to her but also to the countless students who depend on her loving care and expertise.
In Seattle, there is a significant disparity in education, especially for children of color in the special education sector. Ms. Ibi is one of the few black female teachers in our community who intimately understands the cultural and educational needs of these students. Her unique perspective and unwavering commitment to her students have been invaluable and irreplaceable in promoting inclusivity and equality in our education system.
Recent studies have shown that having diverse educators is crucial in reducing racial disparities and improving academic outcomes for minority students. Ms. Ibi’s presence in the classroom not only enriches the learning environment but also provides much-needed mentorship and representation for black and brown students.
Losing Ms. Ibi from Rising Star would mean losing a powerful advocate and teacher who has a proven track record of making a difference in the lives of her students. We cannot allow a baseless complaint to undermine the invaluable work she is doing.
I urge the Seattle School District to reconsider any actions that would result in the dismissal of Ms. Ibi. Her impact goes beyond just academic instruction—she is a cornerstone in nurturing dreams and fostering a sense of belonging and worth in her students.
Let our voices resound in support for Ms. Ibi and ensure she remains a vital part of our educational community. By protecting her position, we are safeguarding the future of our children and taking a stand against the systemic inequities in education.
Please sign this petition to show your support for Ms. Ibi and help preserve her influential role in our school system.
