The coyote should not be killed. It will be trapped and relocated. Typically, we would leave the coyote, as they are highly intelligent animals that usually pose no risk. We have got quite few reports of this coyote chasing pets, so there is a bit of a safety risk.

The article on CBC highlights the concerns of Regina residents about the presence of coyotes in urban areas. However, the conversation has taken a distressing turn towards advocating for further measures to address this issue. We believe there is a more humane and effective approach: relocation.

Coyotes play an essential role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. They help control pest populations and are an integral part of the natural food chain. Removing them violently disrupts these systems and creates unforeseen ecological consequences.

Instead of terminating these animals, let's work towards viable solutions such as humane tranquilizing and relocating coyotes to areas where they can thrive without posing a risk to human communities. This method has seen success in other cities, ensuring the safety of both wildlife and residents.

There are humane deterrent strategies that can be implemented at the municipal level. Educating the public on coexistence, securing garbage bins, and creating noise barriers can significantly reduce encounters.

We urge the decision-makers in Regina to consider the ethical implications and the potential ecological impact of resorting to lethal control. By implementing a relocation policy, we not only save the lives of these animals but also preserve the balance of nature.
