PROTECT CHILDREN ONLINE: They shouldn't see it unexpectedly
The Issue
Children are growing up online, and honestly, it’s becoming harder to protect them from things they aren't even looking for.
You can literally just be scrolling through Facebook or another social media platform and suddenly come across sexual or explicit content. Sometimes it's a real person. Sometimes it's an AI-generated video. Either way, it can show up on your feed without you asking for it.
We're now seeing AI-generated videos and images showing sexual situations, nudity, and other explicit behavior. Some even come with sexual sounds. These aren't necessarily things someone searched for—they can simply appear while scrolling, and children and teenagers can see them too.
And that's what concerns me.
I'm not saying adults shouldn't have private lives or that consensual adult relationships are wrong. That's not the point of this petition.
The point is that not everything needs to be turned into public content, especially when that content is sexual, explicit, or inappropriate for young people.
Children are still learning about relationships, boundaries, consent, and what is appropriate. They shouldn't have to learn about these things because an explicit video suddenly appeared on their Facebook feed.
We also need to be more careful about sharing and reposting this kind of content. Just because something is already online doesn't mean we should keep spreading it. Every share, repost, or tag can put that content in front of even more people—including children.
And with AI making it easier than ever to create realistic-looking videos, this problem is only becoming more complicated.
We are not asking for AI to be banned. We are not asking platforms to censor normal adult life or consensual relationships.
We're simply asking for better safeguards, stronger age protections, responsible content moderation, respect for consent, and more accountability from social media platforms.
As ordinary people, we may feel like there's not much we can do. But we can speak up. We can report inappropriate content instead of sharing it. We can teach our children about consent and boundaries. And we can ask the platforms we use every day to do better.
Our children deserve to be able to use the internet without constantly being exposed to things they are not old enough to understand or process.
Please support this petition and help us push for a safer online environment for children and young people. ❤️
