Protect Cats: Warn About Lily Toxicity via Prompts on florist websites.

Protect Cats: Warn About Lily Toxicity via Prompts on florist websites.
The issue
On Friday, September 4th, 2020, my wife received a flower arrangement from her employer to celebrate 20 years of dedicated service. The beautiful bouquet contained lilies, unbeknownst to us then, posed a deadly threat to our household. The arrangement was lovingly placed in a common area of our home, right in front of a heating unit. What we didn't know then is the grave danger these seemingly harmless flowers concealed.
Within just 72 hours, our cherished cat fell gravely ill. We rushed her to the vet, hoping for a quick recovery. Tragically, only 48 hours later, we faced the heart-wrenching decision to end her suffering—she had succumbed to severe renal failure caused by the toxic effects of the lilies.
Lilies are exceptionally toxic to cats. Even minimal exposure—such as brushing against the pollen or drinking water from a vase containing lilies—can lead to fatal kidney failure in felines. This information is not widely known, and many cat owners remain unaware of this danger until it's too late, as we painfully learned.
To prevent other pet owners from experiencing such a profound loss, we urge flower retailers to implement clear and compassionate warnings about lilies' dangers to cats. A simple warning prompt at checkout could make all the difference, alerting cat owners to immediately remove these threats from their homes.
Protecting our beloved pets is a responsibility we all share. We implore online florists to introduce warnings and prompt the shopper to select a different option if they believe the recipient may have cats.
Support this petition and help ensure no other family has to endure the same heartbreak.
Sign the petition now to urge retailers to act responsibly and protect our pets.
