My journey towards environmental advocacy was sparked by a law Comprehensive Performance Task (CPT). Through my research, I've come to appreciate the immense importance of Canada's Greenbelt. Covering over 2 million acres, it is the world’s largest greenbelt, providing environmental, social, and economic benefits for all Canadians (Source: Greenbelt Foundation). However, I have become alarmingly aware of the threats it faces due to extensive, and often unregulated, removal.

The Greenbelt conserves biodiversity by protecting approximately 78 species at risk. It also provides $9.1 billion per year in ecosystem services, such as air and water filtration, carbon storage and flood control (Source: Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation). Despite these benefits, unchecked removal activities threaten it day by day.

It is crucial that we raise awareness of the value of this land, promoting its protection and stunting it's fast-paced destruction. It is not merely a stretch of green space, but rather a representation of Canada's commitment towards environment and biodiversity protection.
