First and foremost I want to thank each and everyone of you who supported, shared and signed our petition. This petition blew up overnight and we received more support than we had originally anticipated. We live at the dead end of Lakewood Avenue directly next to one of the three properties that were sold to JakeJosh Land LLC. In the past few months we have noticed utility companies stopping by to shut off water, remove electrical lines and remove the gas meter to the house at 356 Lakewood Avenue. It seemed that any day now they would be demolishing the house on the property. All three properties were also surveyed and tested multiple times. Because of all the commotion and constant traffic we started to lose hope and assumed we had lost the battle to the developer.
But, I have exciting news to share with everyone! Last week we noticed a gentleman on two separate occasions flying a drone over the properties and taking photos. We decided to approach him and ask what he was doing. We were told by this photographer that he works for the realtor who is working on behalf of JakeJosh Land LLC to resell the properties. The builder failed to do his due diligence prior to purchasing these properties and is now left with 45 acres of wetlands. The area is indicative of wetlands and the financial burden in infrastructure it would take to build anything on the properties would far surpass any financial gain. We did speak directly with the city of Brunswick and the city is also shocked that the builder did not contact them regarding these properties because if he had, he would have been told that this area would be extremely difficult to develop. The city hopes that a conservation will purchase the properties in the future. The builder thinks the property is worth over 2 million dollars now, so if you have an extra 2 million dollars laying around this may be your chance to own 45 acres! As of today, the acreage is not yet listed.
All in all, this is fantastic news! I would consider this a victory for now! If I find out any other news I will be sure to share it with you all. Again, thank you so much for your support and kindness over the past few months!
