Protect Braden River Natural Habitat in Manatee County

Protect Braden River Natural Habitat in Manatee County
The Issue
A natural habitat and wildlife corridor will be eradicated if a proposed development is built alongside the Braden River in Manatee County, Florida. Hundreds of trees will be destroyed and large retention ponds will be installed.
Ninety-nine (99) multi-story attached townhomes will be situated within a flood-prone area, on small lots, near a cell phone tower and high-power lines. To accomplish this, the developer is requesting that the land be rezoned and that waivers of local building regulations be approved.
This site, used by wildlife and migratory birds, is close to an eagle’s nest and less than 500 yards from the Johnson Preserve, which was saved from development a few years ago.
The proposed complex, only 50 feet from the river, jeopardizes the ecosystem in the Evers Reservoir Watershed, the source of Bradenton’s drinking water.
To make matters worse, the adjacent 25 acres is now for sale for development.
Consider the consequences of this unwarranted and unwanted construction: Another natural habitat extinguished, increased noise from I-75 (due to the loss of trees that provide a sound buffer), additional traffic in a tranquil community, and buildings that are incompatible with those in nearby communities.

One could understand the desire to place a few homes at this location, but we don’t need another development that reduces our dwindling tree canopy and threatens the environment.
The development application will be heard by the County Commission August 17, 2023. If you reside in Manatee County, please sign the petition to urge the rejection of this proposal.
There is much talk about water quality and how to prevent aquatic pollution - now is the time to act.
PETITION TO MAINTAIN CURRENT ZONING
Currently, this property is zoned “planned development-mixed use” and “agricultural”. The Board of County Commissioners is being asked to change the zoning to allow for high-density building of 99 townhomes a mere 50 feet from the Braden River, which is the water source for the City of Bradenton.
Petition to MAINTAIN THE CURRENT ZONING DESIGNATIONS of certain property situated between Linger Lodge Road and the Braden River, identified as Manatee County Property Parcels 1918800159, 1919000008, 1919020059 (commonly known as 8240 Linger Lodge Road, Bradenton, FL 34202) and to deny the Proposed Preliminary Site Plan for increased residential.
Whereas, the aforementioned parcels are adjacent to the Braden River, a water supply for the City of Bradenton and
Whereas, these parcels are home to various indigenous flora and fauna, some of which may be protected species and
Whereas, proposed development will destroy natural habitats and increase the risk of damage to the water supply and
Whereas, proposed development will result in a significant increase in local neighborhood traffic and
Whereas proposed development will increase noise and auto pollution impact from Interstate Highway 75 through the removal of numerous trees and
Whereas, proposed development is inconsistent with the surrounding neighborhoods,
We, the undersigned, petition Manatee County to maintain the current zoning designation, deny the requests from the property owner(s) and developer(s) to rezone the aforementioned parcels, and reject the application for PDR-22-05(Z)(P) - Linger Lodge Road Rezone and Preliminary Site Plan - PLN2202-0119.
