The Issue

We want the truth from the Bishop Museum’s Board of Directors. Transparency and accountability are needed now more than ever.

The Bishop Museum’s Board of Directors’ recent unfair dismissal of the Museum’s President and CEO Melanie Ide as well as two senior executives does not change the need for Hawai‘i’s Attorney General to launch an investigation into the Board’s reckless and unjustified actions that continue to cause real harm to our beloved Museum—home to the royal family of heirlooms of the Hawaiian monarchy and more than half of the world’s primary source material for the Pacific.

After a nearly seven-month-long workplace investigation that caused far-reaching damages to Bishop Museum and to the personal reputation of Ms. Ide, a globally-renowned museum leader who was working to help restore Bishop Museum to greatness, the Board of Directors failed to provide any substantive information justifying their thoughtless and negligent actions.

Now more than ever, we must demand an end to the secrecy from the Bishop Museum Board of Directors that has risked the Museum’s operations, programs, relationships, reputation, and funding sources. See the full list of damages caused so far by Bishop Museum’s Board of Directors in the claim filed with the Hawai‘i Attorney General.

Please join the growing community of concerned citizens asking Hawai‘i’s Attorney General to investigate the Bishop Museum’s Board of Directors for breaching their fiduciary duties, wasting the Museum’s charitable assets, and treating three Museum executives unfairly and without aloha.

Please help us restore transparency, accountability, and dignity to Bishop Museum by taking three simple steps:

  1. Sign your name to the petition.
  2. Invite friends and family to sign.
  3.  Ask your local representative to support the Attorney General’s investigation into the Bishop Museum Board of Directors.

Mahalo for your support.
