Send a strong message to key officials in the House and Senate Committee on Agriculture, as well as other key officials with leadership on similar issues.

Currently birds are not protected under the federal Animal Welfare Act, nor the Humane Slaughter Act.

I am writing in strong support of adding birds to the list of protected animals under the federal Animal Welfare Act, as well as the Humane Slaughter Act.

According to Virgil Butler, a former Tyson slaughterhouse work, "...the chickens flop, scream, kick, and their eyeballs pop out of their heads. Then, they often come out the other end with broken bones and disfigured and missing body parts because they've struggled so much in the tank."

This statement and research clearly shows that birds need to be treated more humane and I hope to see your leadership on this issue.

I look forward to your response,
