The Issue

On July 8, 2025, the Filipino girl group BINI appeared on the American YouTube channel People Vs Food, where they were invited to try and rate popular Filipino snacks. However, the video received backlash from the People of the Republic of the Philippines, who criticized the group for allegedly not being "Filipino enough" and for showing reactions of disgust towards local delicacies such as chicken intestine (isaw), pork blood (betamax), and many more.

It is important to clarify that People vs Food is reaction-based channel. It does not aim to promote specific cuisines but rather captures genuine, and unfiltered reactions which is the core concept of their content. Unfortunately, this nuance was overlooked by many viewers, including some of the Filipino who took offense to the video. The People of the Republic of the Philippines, including licensed professionals such as teachers, joined in on the online hate without proper context or understanding and relying to the splice video.

Despite the backlash, ABS-CBN Corporation, Star Magic, Star Music (also known as Star Records Inc.), and Mr. Laurenti Dyogi have yet to release any official statement or take appropriate action to address the online hate or protect the group.

Therefore, we respectfully call on ABS-CBN Corporation, Star Magic,  Star Records Inc., and Mr. Laurenti Dyogi to:

  1.  Release an Official Statement acknowledging the current controversy, including from the official BINI_PH, Star Magic, and Star Music accounts, and issue a warning to those involved that there will be consequences for their actions.
  2. Take immediate steps to address the online harassment, especially on Facebook where posts with high engagement have led to increased hate.
  3. Coordinate with the Department of Education (DepED) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to investigate and sanction any licensed teachers who participated in online hate or insulted the members of BINI. This may include suspension or revocation of their LPT (Licensed Professional Teacher).
  4. Pursue legal action against content creators who have earned revenue through videos or post that bash or defame the group, in accordance with Republic Act No  10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).
  5. Ensure protection for BINI going forward by creating a safer, healthier environment for their fans and the artists themselves. Let this be the last time they are left defenseless in the face of public hate.

And lastly, we ask Mr. Laurenti Dyogi and the executives of ABS-CBN Corporation to actively monitor the situation and avoid bias or neglect. BINI are not robots. They are young women with feelings, and constant attacks may affect on their mental health, physical well-being, and the future of their careers.

We hope that this petition reaches your attention and results in urgent and meaningful action.

Thank you.
