The Issue

Protect Beaver Creek Reservoir and Its Watershed
The Issue
Growing up in Crozet, Virginia, Beaver Creek Reservoir has been a treasured part of our community. It is more than a scenic place, it is a vital ecosystem, a drinking water source, and a refuge for wildlife.

Today, Beaver Creek is facing increasing stress from rapid development and population growth in Albemarle County. As growth accelerates, water demand continues to rise while protections for the reservoir, surrounding forests, and watershed remain limited.

Many residents are concerned that the pace of development approvals may outstrip the capacity of Beaver Creek and the region’s existing infrastructure. Continued clearing of land and increased water use risk harming water quality, wildlife habitat, and long-term water security.

This petition calls on County leaders to take immediate action to protect Beaver Creek Reservoir by strengthening watershed protections, increasing transparency in development decisions, and pausing approvals that would further strain this essential resource until sustainable planning is in place.

Environmental agencies consistently emphasize that healthy forests and protected watersheds are critical to maintaining clean and reliable water supplies. Once damaged, these systems are difficult, and often impossible to restore.

If we act now, Beaver Creek can still be preserved for future generations. Please join us in urging Albemarle County to prioritize water protection, environmental responsibility, and sustainable growth.
