Protect Bears Ensure COS officers wear body cams and a non lethal approach to all bears.

The Issue

Having witnessed a tragic incident where a mother bear lost her life, and consequently, her cubs were left orphaned,  and later disappeared, this petition holds a deeply personal significance. Actions and decisions made by conservation officers (COs) can have irreversible consequences on wildlife. Therefore, implementing measures to ensure accountability & truth  and the safety of The bears is crucial.

All conservation officers must be equipped with body cams, which will significantly improve the transparency and oversight of their interactions with wildlife. These body cams will act as impartial witnesses to the actions taken during wildlife management encounters, particularly with bears, to ensure they are handled with care and respect.

Additionally, it is imperative that conservation officers adopt strictly non-lethal approaches when dealing with bear encounters.

Utilizing non-lethal deterrents is critical to promote peaceful coexistence and ensure the protection of our bears.

It is also essential that an independent oversight group be established to monitor and evaluate the actions of conservation officers. This group should consist of experts in wildlife biology, ethics, and conservation, and locals who will be a quick response team who can provide unbiased assessments and recommendations to improve bears lives, ensure bear safety, and foster public trust a line to call who people feel comfortable with.

We urge the relevant authorities to take these steps to safeguard our wildlife heritage the world is watching BC. We must ensure that tragic events like the loss of a mother bear and her cubs do not happen again. Please sign this petition to help protect bears and ensure ethical wildlife  practices.
