The Issue

Scotch broom (Cytisus scoparius) is choking out native species, fueling wildfire risks, and damaging British Columbia’s ecosystems — and we need your help to stop it.

This aggressively invasive plant is spreading across roadsides, forests, and open lands, where it:

• Outcompetes native flora and harms wildlife habitats

• Inhibits forest regeneration and agricultural use

• Poses a serious fire hazard due to its dry, flammable growth

• Costs communities and landowners time and money to control

We need to call on the Legislative Assembly to take immediate action to control and remove Scotch broom across the province.

We urge the BC Government to:

• Officially recognize Scotch broom as a serious ecological and public safety threat province-wide

•Allocate funding for large-scale broom removal projects

•Support partnerships with municipalities, Indigenous communities, and environmental groups

•Launch a public awareness campaign to prevent its spread and encourage responsible removal

Let’s protect BC’s natural beauty, biodiversity, and safety for generations to come. Sign and share this petition to demand real action now!
