Protect Banyan Elementary and Banyan Park from sale or lease

The Issue

As a deeply invested parent and community member of Banyan Elementary, I am writing to express our collective concern about the potential sale or lease of Banyan Elementary and the sale of Banyan Park to Christopher Columbus High School. Banyan Elementary is not just a school; it is a thriving A-rated institution that anchors our community with its strong education and dedicated populace. The thought of losing such a cornerstone of our community is not only distressing, it feels personal.

Moreover, Banyan Park offers an irreplaceable green space that families cherish, providing a vital recreational area and a safe environment where our children can play and learn about nature. In a world increasingly dominated by concrete, the preservation of open, green spaces is imperative for maintaining quality of life.

Our neighborhood is already teetering under the pressure of increased traffic, congestion, and limited street parking brought on by the proximity of Columbus and St. Brendan Schools. The expansion of another educational facility could exacerbate these issues to unmanageable levels. Increased traffic and parking difficulties not only contribute to environmental pollution but also raise grave safety concerns for our families, children, and pedestrians.

We must consider the potential ramifications on public safety with rising vehicular traffic in areas where children walk to and from school or play outside. Compounding this with reduced green space by losing Banyan Park only serves to deteriorate the overall community standard of living—where safety, tranquility, and communal harmony are priorities.

We urge the local authorities and stakeholders involved to thoughtfully reassess the proposal to sell or lease Banyan Elementary and Banyan Park. Our community’s voice is unified in seeking alternative solutions that do not compromise educational integrity, community health, and our quality of life. We hope for a sustainable plan wherein our community remains vibrant, safe, and whole.

I invite everyone who believes in preserving educational and communal sanctuaries to join us in standing against the proposed alterations. Please, sign this petition and help us protect Banyan Elementary, Banyan Park, and our cherished community from being irreversibly altered.
