Protect apartment owners from costly defects

The issue

There are currently 2.5 million Australians who call an apartment home.  But between 50-60% of these owners have critical defects in their apartments ie structural cracking, water penetration etc.

Plus anyone in Australia living in four storeys or higher does not have home warranty insurance protection if their builder goes bust.  That means that owners are having to pay a defect bill - sometimes as much as $9 million. How is that fair?

Australian Apartment Advocacy is calling for mandatory audits of apartment builds and we have the support of 15 associations who are involved in the construction process.

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) believes that mandated audits will save apartment owners $1.3 billion per annum.

Do we want to see another Mascot or Opal towers? Now is the time to take action and create a legacy where apartment owners are safe in their home.  With another 65,000 apartments to be delivered nationally in the next five years - join us to make sure they are not slums!

Apartment owners deserve the same protection as those people who chose to live in a stand alone home.  If the Government introduces mandatory audits then insurance companies will consider protecting these owners.

We are seeking 10,000 signatures so please share with friends and colleagues.

Help us in providing consumer protection equity for all.
