Animals in Florida deserve stronger protection under the law. Every year, countless dogs, cats, horses, and other animals suffer from abuse, neglect, and cruelty. Yet far too often, abusers walk away with a slap on the wrist—a small fine, probation, or no punishment at all.

This has to change.

We, the undersigned, are calling on the Florida State Legislature and Governor Ron DeSantis to strengthen Florida’s animal cruelty laws by:

*Making first-time animal cruelty a felony, not just a misdemeanor
*Requiring longer jail time and larger fines for abusers
*Banning convicted abusers from owning animals again
*Mandating mental health evaluations for offenders
*Adding stronger protections for farm animals, outdoor pets, and animals in entertainment

These changes will help prevent abuse, protect vulnerable animals, and show that Florida takes cruelty seriously.

Animals can’t speak for themselves—but we can speak for them.
