The Issue

We, the undersigned, are calling for global standards to ensure the ethical treatment of animals used in film, television, and entertainment.

Animals should never be used as props in ways that cause fear, distress, or harm. Scenes involving dropping animals, confining them in stressful environments, or using them for shock value are unacceptable.

We are calling for enforceable protections that require:

The use of professionally trained animals only
Certified handlers present at all times
A strict ban on distress-based or fear-inducing stunts
Independent animal welfare monitoring on set
Public transparency and accountability for violations
Organizations such as American Humane have demonstrated that humane standards are possible—but these protections must become universal and enforceable worldwide.

Entertainment should reflect compassion, not exploitation.
