As humans we tend to think only of what the human wants and very often, the Earth pays the price. When development is regarded as 'progress' at the cost of Nature, it becomes clear the we have lost our connection to the planet that sustains us. And that.... is irresponsible. Remember that Walker Bay is attracting many tourists, and to destroy it, will affect the whole of Gansbaai, and the success of the petition will inspire South Africans to take action and succeed.

As we research the impact that the Koi San Development that has been given a green flag by the Overstrand Municipality, we gain much support from various organisations like HawkWatch International. Dr Megan Murgatroyd - International Program Director sent a letter to us.

We quote: "Black Harriers are endemic to southern Africa and there are estimated to be less than 1300 adults remaining, and their numbers are continuing to decline. Black Harriers breed and forage mainly in the biodiversity rich Fynbos biome, favouring Fynbos, Renosterveld and Strandveld vegetation. It is estimated that at least 50% of their habitat has been lost over the past century, and continuing habitat loss remains a primary threat to the species.

As such I believe this project is fatally flawed and should be a ‘no go’ in terms of impacts on an Endangered species (National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (No 10 of 2004): Threatened or Protected Species Regulations). "
