Protect and Preserve the New Brighton Mural Trail

Protect and Preserve the New Brighton Mural Trail
The Issue
We the undersigned petition Wirral Council to:
Recognise the New Brighton mural trail as a valued cultural and community asset, and to work with local partners to ensure its upkeep, care, and future development as part of Wirral’s creative identity.
More info:
New Brighton’s murals have transformed streets, boosted local pride, and brought visitors back to the heart of our seaside town. Families, artists, business owners, and volunteers have all been part of creating something unique—an outdoor gallery celebrating local heritage, global talent, and community spirit. Yet without recognition or support from Wirral Council, this cultural achievement is at risk of neglect, vandalism, or slow decay.
If the mural trail fades, we lose more than just paint on walls. We risk letting a nationally recognised success story slip away—a story that has inspired festivals, youth art projects, tourism, and independent enterprise. With rising footfall and growing creative potential, the trail should be safeguarded, not sidelined. It deserves proper support as a symbol of what community-led regeneration can achieve.
That’s why we’re calling on Wirral Council to act now. With a clear ask—recognise the trail as a cultural asset and commit to working with local partners to ensure its future—we believe the Council can set an example of proactive support for public art. This is our chance to preserve what’s been built and grow something even greater.
