Protect and Preserve Remote Jobs for Active Duty Military Spouses

The Issue

We call on Congress and President Donald Trump to enact protections for remote work opportunities for military spouses. The recent JAN 2025 executive order mandating the termination of remote work across federal agencies will have devastating consequences for military families, making it nearly impossible for many military spouses to remain employed. While the executive order allows for exemptions, there are no specific protections for military spouses—individuals who already face unique and significant challenges in maintaining their careers.

Military spouses face an unemployment rate of 21%-26%, the highest of any demographic in the country, compared to 5.3% for civilians. Over 51% are unemployed or underemployed, despite being more educated than the general population. Constant relocations every two years often make remote work the only viable option for employment. Removing this lifeline will create further financial instability for families already sacrificing so much for our nation.

Without remote work protections, military spouses will lose the ability to save for retirement, pay for childcare, and contribute to the economy. This isn’t just about jobs—it’s about doing what’s right for the families who serve alongside our military. Military spouses are resilient, adaptable, and highly qualified. They deserve the opportunity to thrive professionally, even amidst the demands of military life.

We urge Congress and President Trump to take immediate action to safeguard remote work for military spouses. Protecting these opportunities is not just an economic necessity—it is a moral obligation to those who sacrifice so much for our country. Sign this petition and stand with military families today.
