Hey everyone. Here’s a quick update with the hiking trails, the city and the forest service. Over the past several months, we’ve been approaching city officials about protecting our hiking trails.

1. We started with a petition to give us one family-friendly trail without bikers (the city finally agreed and we’ve heard that they are waiting on approval from the forest service). Great job everyone!
2. Kenny Trail and Holbrook Canyon should be maintained as hiking trails (and hopefully soon will be marked “no bikes” soon.) The plans to demolish Kenny hiking trail has been stopped. Yay!
3. Ward Canyon: the city is non-responsive about protecting this hiking trail. They want to build an off ramp for bikers here. Aubrey Guynn has some great posts about this amazing hiking trail we need to preserve.
   
   Everyone needs to know that the forest service recently messaged me and told me that they don’t have any control over this part of the BST trail in ward canyon. It’s the city. They encouraged us to work with the city to protect this trail for hikers. We’ve been told that part of the land is privately owned, so we need to encourage the land owners to protect that hiking trail.
   
   
4. The forest service is halting all trail approvals from our city right now due to employee cut backs. The city told us that they are only building in north canyon this year. This is great news for us, because we need to continue to show them how dangerous it is for hikers on these multi-use trails this year. They have way too many bike trails in their plans to be built - even more than they’ve already built.

What can we do this summer ??!

1- PLEASE take videos, pictures and write about your experiences here and send them to city staff. They need to see and hear about what we as hikers are experiencing. 
2- We need to get speed bumps up in mueller park canyon to slow down bikers. I’m sure many of you know this, because I’ve seen you up there and you’ve told me your experiences, but those bikes come barreling out of that canyon way too fast.  Here's a video that shows a little of the concerns..  https://youtu.be/Xmnb9DTcHas?si=NxMiqiNQYEqx5alR
