The overturning of Roe v Wade in the United States of America has spurred action from anti-choice and forced birth campaigners in South Australia with Labor Government Minister Clare Scriven MLC front & centre!

Only days before the delayed decriminalisation of abortion healthcare laws finally begin in SA, Labor Government Minister for Primary Industries & Regional Development and Minister for Forest Industries Clare Scriven MLC will be 'mentoring' people at the Enid Lyon List's Youth Leadership training day to "activate a new generation to rise up and fight for the human rights of the unborn".

A month ago in Victoria State Liberal MP Bernie Finn was expelled from the parliamentary Liberal party after expressing support for the overturning of Roe v Wade, saying he was praying for events in Australia to ban abortion. Yet, even though more South Australians ticked 'no religion' in the latest census than any other state, our governing political party is silent when their members threaten to undermine the rights of people across the state despite their claimed party values.

Clare Scriven, member of the Legislative Council for SA Labor, has long campaigned against abortion being safe & legal and she significantly contributed to SA being the last state in Australia to decriminalise abortion. She does not believe that this is about choice.

During the 2021 Bill, Clare Scriven attempted to remove scheduled discussion claiming it would "politicising Remembrance Day”, she was criticised by regional doctors for making baseless claims, and while speaking at an anti-choice rally last year Scriven claimed the decriminalising abortion "abandoned women" and "abandoned their babies" and that "women who are advocating for these changes (decrim of abortion), many of them no doubt experiencing their own grief from abortion".

It's time for our leadership to represent its people and while representatives like Clare Scriven MLC use their platform and power to boost a loud minority that want people forced into pregnancy and birth, no one is safe. We're calling on the South Australian Labor Party and it's leadership to make clear that our rights are protected by removing Clare Scriven from Government leadership.
