Museo Inti Ñan is a museum at the center of the earth with interactive science experiments and informal education about the indigenous tribe cultures of Ecuador. They feature an original hut from the 1800s before Spanish colonization, as well as activities that can only be done while standing on the equator line. These llamas are important to me personally because I visit this museum quite often to show new hires I work with some of the many wonders about the center of the world.

Llamas require acres of land PER llama in order for them to live a normal life, after learning this, my concern only grew with each visit. The staff, specifically a gentleman who cares for the llamas, and Gabriel, a tour guide who deeply shares this concern with me, tell me that they've never ONCE let them outside of their fenced area aside from a mandatory vet visit. They’ve pleaded with the owners, along with countless museum visitors, to hand them over to a sanctuary, however the owners consider these llamas to be a cute prop in the entrance.

I started this petition to solicit help from the people at Proteccion Animal Ecuador who are at the forefront of animal abuse cases such as this one, in the outskirts of the city of Quito. This petition could help them live a real life amongst other llamas and alpacas in one of the many sanctuaries and rescue centers of Ecuador. Or, at the very least, this could push them to create a MUCH larger space for them.

In Ecuador, their animal rights policies are very advanced. I made a YouTube video about a highly vegan cafe in Quito named Cafe Mosaico, featuring the most spectacular view of the mountains, where they rescue and spay/ neuter dogs to find them forever homes. A quick google search shows you many vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Quito, which to me is indicative of how far along they are in their animal rights movement.  They’re so ahead of the game that they even have TWO zero waste shops!

Attached is a video about this museum as well as the Mitad Del Mundo museum, which to my knowledge does not currently have large caged animals. At the end of the video, you can see footage of these llamas and the living conditions they’ve been given their entire lives as props for Museo Inti Ñan. Thank you for signing and taking a moment to read this. Please share where you can and check back for more updates on the well being of these llamas.
