Does anything stand out to you about the Mobile, Alabama Circuit Court judges? In a State with a known history of racial injustice and discrimination, every, single one of the Mobile County Circuit Court judges is White. Even today’s employers are beginning to align with the fact that diversity not only provides a strategic advantage by adding a myriad of perspectives and backgrounds to the workplace, but it also creates a more comfortable and equitable space for their minority employees to exist. I’m not sure that we should treat America’s courtrooms any differently.
In fact, I have reasonable doubt that my husband received a fair shot in Mobile, while standing trial under a White DA, White judge, and 11/12 White jury. Perhaps, these were contributing factors in Leonard, a man with no prior convictions, being found guilty with no ballistics matches, no fingerprint matches, no clothing analysis being released, and on the out-of-court hearsay of a child with disabilities. One has to wonder what the outcome would have been, had my husband been born White and not been tried as a Black man in Alabama.
As of today, we are still awaiting an evidentiary hearing date. Please continue signing and sharing our petition and don’t stop speaking out on your social media platforms. We appreciate you all so much. If you feel laws and human rights were violated in wrongfully incarcerating Leonard and you’d like to support his freedom and release back to his family, or vouch for his character, please call, or write to the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office. Until freedom, Mrs. Coleman
