No animal should ever be abandoned. This conviction strikes deeply personal to me and many like minded people who care for animals. Tragically, a gravely ill dog was recently found abandoned, left on a park bench near the National War Museum in the freezing cold of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. As animal lovers, we can't help but feel a fierce sense of injustice upon hearing stories like this. This incident is not an isolated one; animal abandonment is a grave act of animal cruelty, punishable by law. Yet, it continues to persist in our society. It is baffling and heartbreaking as places like the Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) exist specifically to help pet owners in dire straits. The OHS, known for its dogged dedication to the welfare of animals, offers 24/7 assistance to the public, providing a safe place for pets to be surrendered, professionally evaluated and cared for, with the goal of helping the animals find responsible, loving homes. This case, therefore, is especially egregious, as help was just a phone call away. We call upon the authorities to spare no effort in finding the person or persons responsible for this unthinkable act. We demand justice for the abandoned dog and want the offenders to be rightfully prosecuted with Animal Cruelty charges. Signing this petition will send a strong message that acts of cruelty towards animals will not be tolerated.
