As someone who feels deeply pained and shocked by the senseless killing of innocent wildlife, I am moved to supplement the outcry for justice for Arthur, a cherished egret from Lake Gregory Regional Park. Jeremy Jansen, a resident of Claremont, California, is accused of violently taking Arthur's life during what was supposed to be a peaceful day out at the lake. His actions are a testament to ruthless animal cruelty.

Allegedly, Jansen and his friends began their belligerence by throwing rocks at ducks in the lake. Arthur, who was minding his own business and enjoying the sunshine, became their undeserving target. A casual throw led to Arthur being brutally hit and knocked into the water, visibly injured. In an act of twisted mercy, one of Jansen's friends concluded the life of the injured bird by breaking its neck.

What happened to Arthur is an unmistakable act of animal cruelty. It's horrible to contemplate that every year, thousands of animals are victims of such abuse. Indeed, the Humane Society estimates that nearly 1 million animals are abused or killed each year due to some form of human cruelty. We as a society must condemn and fight against these actions.

We request that the appropriate legal action be taken against Jeremy Jansen and his accomplices for their heartless acts. We demand justice for Arthur. A message must be sent to make it clear that actions leading to the harm and death of innocent wildlife will not be tolerated.
