Prosecute Individuals Responsible for Abusing Bear Cubs in Asheville, NC

Prosecute Individuals Responsible for Abusing Bear Cubs in Asheville, NC
The Issue
As a passionate advocate for wildlife and a resident of NC, I am deeply disturbed by the recent incidents of bear cubs being abused by individuals in our community. Wildlife should never be handled by the public; it is both harmful to the animals and illegal under North Carolina law.
Bear cubs are particularly vulnerable. According to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, they depend on their mothers for survival during their first year of life. Interference from humans can lead to orphaned cubs who struggle to survive.
The abuse these bear cubs have suffered is not only an act of cruelty but also a violation of our state's laws protecting wildlife. The North Carolina General Statutes (§ 113-291.4) clearly state that it is unlawful "to take, possess, transport... or sell any wild animal." Violations can result in misdemeanor charges with penalties including fines and imprisonment.
We must ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions. By doing so, we send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in Asheville or anywhere else.
Please join me in calling on local authorities to thoroughly investigate these incidents and prosecute those involved to the fullest extent of the law. Sign this petition today and help protect our precious wildlife from harm.
