WE DID IT ! The UK Has Proscribed the IRGC 🎉

On Monday 13 July 2026, the UK government announced it is proscribing Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. After years of campaigning, petitioning, writing to MPs, and refusing to let this issue disappear from the agenda, the demand at the heart of this petition has finally been answered.

This is your victory. Every single one of you who signed, shared, wrote to your MP, or simply refused to look away, thank you. When we started this campaign, we were told it was too politically difficult, that it would never happen. You proved that ordinary people, standing together, can move a government.

Why this matters
The IRGC is not a conventional military force. It is the machinery behind assassination plots on British soil, the intimidation of journalists and dissidents living in the UK, hostage-taking of dual nationals, and the funding and arming of terror networks across the Middle East. British intelligence has repeatedly warned of IRGC-linked plots targeting people in this country.

Under the new designation, it will now be a criminal offence to support the IRGC, assist its activities in the UK, or accept material benefit from it, with penalties of up to 14 years in prison. The government has also designated the Iran-linked Islamic Movement of Companions of the Right (IMCR), which claimed responsibility for attacks on Jewish communities here.

For the Iranian diaspora who have lived in fear of the regime's reach, for the communities targeted by its proxies, and for everyone who believes the UK should not be a safe operating ground for state-sponsored terror, this is a landmark moment.

The work isn't finished
A proscription on paper only matters if it is enforced. So here is what we will be watching for and what we ask you to keep pushing on:

1. Parliament must approve the new powers without delay or dilution. The measures still require parliamentary approval. Write to your MP this week and ask them to vote the powers through in full.

2. The government must enforce it. Visibly and consistently. Prosecutions must follow where IRGC-linked individuals and front organisations operate in the UK. A ban that is never enforced is a ban in name only.

3. Front organisations and financial networks must be shut down. The IRGC operates through charities, businesses, cultural centres and money channels. The Home Office, Treasury and Charity Commission must actively investigate and dismantle these networks.

4. Those threatened by the regime must be protected. Iranian dissidents, journalists, and all other communities in the UK have borne the brunt of IRGC-linked intimidation. The government's commitments on community protection must be delivered in full.

5. The UK should lead internationally. With the EU having also designated the IRGC, Britain should press allies to close every gap the regime could exploit.
