Proposal for the Parks and Rec. Department to Build an Outdoor Roller Rink in Palm Springs

Proposal for the Parks and Rec. Department to Build an Outdoor Roller Rink in Palm Springs
The Issue
As members of the local skating community in Palm Springs, CA, we understand the joy and benefits that roller skating brings. Skating is not just a fun activity; it's also an effective way to stay fit and healthy. Unfortunately, there are limited spaces in our valley where people can safely gather to roller skate as a group.
We propose that the Department of Parks and Recreation build an outdoor roller rink. This would not only promote physical activity but also create a space for people to build community ties and friendships. According to the American Heart Association, roller skating can help improve heart health as it gets your heart pumping at 70-90% of its maximum rate if you skate at a constant pace (American Heart Association). Moreover, studies have shown that strong social connections can increase longevity and improve mental health (Harvard Health Publishing).
An outdoor roller rink would also be a wonderful opportunity for the children of the community. Children now more then ever need access to outdoor activities to keep them active and allow them to foster new friendships. Roller skating can boost confidence and self-esteem as kids learn new skills and see that they can overcome challenges.
By constructing this outdoor roller rink, we could provide our residents with a safe place where they can exercise while having fun. It would also serve as a hub for our local skate community—a welcoming environment where everyone supports each other's growth.
Join us in urging the Department of Parks and Recreation to consider this proposal seriously. Your signature could help bring about change that will benefit all residents of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley—promoting fitness while fostering stronger community bonds through shared interests.
