Proper Publication & Implementation of the Highway Code Rule Changes
Why this petition matters

I am a Barrister of England and Wales and feel strongly that the new Highway Code Rules (from 29/1/22) are already causing confusion and danger on the road, and will continue to do so unless properly and critically reviewed, and amended or reverted.
I accept that the high numbers of pedestrian, cyclist, and other casualties on UK roads is unacceptable and needs urgent attention, but I humbly suggest that the new rules are poorly thought out and will not achieve this objective.
- MPs have criticised the rules (link)
- Cyclists have made a mockery of the rules (link)
- I have witnessed near-misses on more than one occasion within the first few days
I have talked about my experiences in the following videos:
New rules see cyclists advised to ride centre lane and cars to stop when turning into a road to allow pedestrians to cross the road, among others. This causes more confusion, not less, not to mention those who walk with the help of Assistance or Guide Dogs.
These rules need a full and proper publication and implementation before many more people are injured or killed as a result.
