As a resident of Region II, Philippines and an avid internet user, I am deeply disturbed by the increasing number of animal abuse cases I witness online. This is a personal plea to remind everyone about the right conduct and treatment towards animals. Animals are sentient beings that feel pain and emotions just like us humans. They deserve to be treated with kindness, respect, and dignity.

In the Philippines alone, there were over 1,000 reported cases of animal cruelty in 2019 according to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). This alarming statistic only includes reported cases; countless incidents go unreported every day. We need stronger enforcement of our existing laws against animal cruelty such as Republic Act No. 8485 or The Animal Welfare Act.

Region II can lead this change by promoting proper conduct towards animals through education programs in schools and communities. Let's make our region a safe haven for all creatures big or small.

We call on local government units (LGUs), educational institutions, community leaders in Region II to take action against animal abuse by implementing stricter regulations and promoting awareness about proper animal treatment.
