I am a resident of Bayabas, Surigao del Sur, deeply moved by the plight of animals in our community. This issue is personal to me because I believe that every creature deserves respect and care. Our town has seen an increase in instances of animal neglect and abuse which is both heartbreaking and unacceptable.

Animals are sentient beings capable of feeling pain and suffering just like us humans. The Animal Welfare Act (Republic Act 8485) was enacted in the Philippines to protect animals from cruelty, yet many are still subjected to harsh conditions daily.

The World Animal Protection's 2020 report states that the Philippines ranks 34th out of 50 countries on their Animal Protection Index. This shows we have much room for improvement when it comes to animal welfare.

We need your help to bring about change. We urge local authorities in Bayabas, Surigao del Sur to enforce stricter regulations against animal cruelty and promote responsible pet ownership through educational campaigns.
