I speak as an individual deeply concerned about our future, a future in which we are slowly causing our own destruction due to climate change. We can no longer afford to be passive and silent about this matter. Warnings from the scientific community, like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), are hard to ignore. They have clearly stated that human activities are estimated to have caused 1.0°C of global warming since the pre-industrial period and this could reach 1.5°C between 2030 and 2052 at the current rate. This warming is bringing about unprecedented climactic crises the world over.

There is still a large portion of the populace oblivious to the severity of this crisis, and we need to change this now. We need to advocate for stronger climate change education in schools, engage media outlets to provide regular, accurate reports on the state of the planet, and pressure our local governments to be more active in spreading climate-change awareness within our communities.

We need to fight this war against our own unconcern. We need to learn about the climate, its changes, and the roles we play in these changes.
